TRUTH will set you FREE!

She changed her last name to TRUTH. She changed her first name to SOJOURNER. "Isabella" wasn't powerful enough a name for the tall slave woman who felt she had "the power of a nation" with her as she cried out for justice.

I'm reading "The Narrative of Sojourner Truth" and can't get her out of my head.

I wish every American would read this book. I believe it will change a lot of us, and bend our perspective in the right direction. We are easily offended by cruelties that unfold around the world. That is a good thing. But this simple look into our own near past will prevent us from being too self-righteous as we cry and fight injustice wherever we find it.

As easy as it is to empathize with the victims, we must also see ourselves in the oppressors. One of the frailties of our humanity is that each of us is fully capable of either.

But I don't want to leave us all feeling guilty and negative. Let's also soar with the slave songs as they cry to a very real God who sees and cares about every injustice, and will love us all the way through to our own freedom. Sojourner Truth was simple and strong, and impassioned with hope!

I can't wait to meet her!

Get the book. Or do some serious internet research on this amazing woman! You can't stay the same. Truth WILL set you free!
